Appointees who work in the five boroughs of New York City or in Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, or Westchester Counties will receive an additional $1,264 annual downstate adjustment. Appointees who work in Dutchess, Orange, or Putnam Counties will receive an additional $632 annual Mid-Hudson adjustment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: On or before August 31, 2005, you must have a permanent or professional New York State Teacher Certificate OR an eligibility for a permanent or professional New York State Teacher Certificate letter from the New York State Education Department*, plus a paid fee receipt AND, in addition to either of the above, a total of three years of provisional, initial, permanent or professional teaching experience. *Applicants filing under this requirement must submit with their application, a copy of both the letter from the New York State Education Department and the paid fee receipt. Failure to provide this information will result in the disapproval of the application. REQUIREMENTS FOR CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT: Possession of a permanent or professional New York State Teacher Certificate is necessary for continued employment. THE POSITIONS: This position exists in the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. One vacancy currently exists in Suffolk County. This position also exists in the following counties: Albany, Bronx, Cattaraugus, Cayuga, Clinton, Delaware, Dutchess, Kings, Oneida, Orange, and Richmond. DUTIES: As a Youth Education Coordinator, you would be responsible for the supervision of the education program in a small Office of Children and Family Services residential center. You would develop an overall facility education plan, hire and supervise teachers, evaluate staff performance and assign students to appropriate classes. Up to 50% of your time may be spent instructing students in subject area courses. SALARIES: Salaries are paid on a ten-month basis. If you work during the other two months, you will receive additional compensation. SUBJECT OF EXAMINATION: There will be no written test. If you meet the Minimum Qualifications your education and experience will be evaluated against the general background/critical activities of the position. This evaluation will concentrate on your experience in four areas: (1) selecting and employing a variety of techniques in presenting subject matter to students; (2) planning and outlining class work; (3) preparation of assessment techniques and analyzing student achievement; and (4) training and/or supervision of other education related staff. With each area in mind, provide complete and accurate information on your OC-APP Open Competitive Examination Application form, including a description of the type of educational setting (public school, correctional facility, etc.) and the type of student population you were teaching (Special Education, Juvenile Correctional, Remedial, Gifted, English as a second language, adult education, etc.). It is essential that you describe your education and experience as completely as possible on the OC-APP Open Competitive Examination Application form. Ambiguity, vagueness or omissions will not be decided in your favor. Do NOT send resumes. If you need more space, attach additional 8½ x 11” sheets, following the same format used on the application form. Additional unsolicited information will not be accepted after the last day for filing. Your final score must be 70 or higher in order to pass. Rank on the eligible list will be determined after adding any wartime veterans' and Civil Service Law Section 85-a credits to your final passing score.
