AND Four years of mechanical, electrical or electronic design experience, one year of which must have included the design of microprocessor equipment and both software and hardware programming and development and either: 1. the design, construction and maintenance of laboratory electronic equipment and electronic systems OR 2. the supervision of others in electronic equipment and electronic systems development with responsibility for collaboration in planning research projects and their instrumentation for a large research organization. NOTES: 1. A master s degree in electrical or electronic engineering may be substituted for one year of general mechanical, electrical or electronic design experience. 2. Appropriate part-time and volunteer experience, which can be verified, will be accepted on a prorated basis. 3. New York State residence is not required. 4. Your degree and/or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the NYS Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. If your degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. THE POSITIONS: The resulting eligible list will be used to fill positions in the Department of Environmental Conservation only. Currently there is a vacancy in Syracuse. DUTIES: Senior Electronics Laboratory Engineers, plan and direct the design and development of electronic devices and systems. They help plan research procedures by advising on electronic devices; supervise the construction and modification of precision electronic equipment; prepare drawings and specifications; and train personnel in the use of electronic equipment and systems. They may supervise personnel in operating and maintaining a digital communications system; and may be responsible for contract supervision covering the electronic equipment used in the statewide environmental monitoring system.
