Appointees who work in the five boroughs of New York City or in Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, or Westchester Counties will receive an additional $1,302 annual downstate adjustment. Appointees who work in Dutchess, Orange, or Putnam Counties will receive an additional $651 annual Mid-Hudson adjustment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: On or before the date of filing your application, you must have a license and current registration to practice pharmacy in New York State. If you are appointed and lose your license or current registration, action will be taken to remove you from the position.
NOTES: New York State residence is not required.
THE POSITIONS: These positions are located in facilities operated by the Office of Mental Health, Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, Departments of Correctional Services and Health, and the State University of New York at Albany.
DUTIES: As a Pharmacist, you would be responsible for the provision of pharmaceutical care, including the review, dispensing, and monitoring of inpatient and outpatient medications. You would also be responsible for preparing IV admixtures, providing drug information, conducting patient and family medication counseling sessions, supervising pharmacy aides, and participating in pharmacy and facility wide performance improvement activities.
SUBJECT OF EXAMINATION: If you meet the "Minimum Qualifications," your training and experience will be evaluated against the general background of the position. Therefore, it is essential that you give complete and accurate information on your application. Please include information about your pharmaceutical experience and information on all education, including a copy of your current registration and documentation of continuing education units. C.E.U. descriptions must include the course title, date completed, provider, and point value. Pharmacy graduate course descriptions must include the name of the college or university, date completed, and credit value. Vagueness and omissions will not be interpreted in your favor. Your name will be placed on an eligible list for each facility or agency to which you apply.

Where To Apply: If you wish to be employed in one of the facilities in the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, the State University of New York, the Department of Correctional Services, or the Office of Mental Health, you should submit your application directly to their main personnel offices in Albany. If you wish to be employed in one of the facilities of the Department of Health or the Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, you should send your application directly to that facility. Do not send applications to the Department of Civil Service.
State agencies have an ongoing need for persons qualified for appointment to these positions. In general, all applications received up to six weeks before a scheduled test date will be processed for that test date. NEW YORK STATE RESIDENCE IS NOT REQUIRED FOR MOST POSITIONS: However, you must be eligible for employment in the United States.
FINGERPRINTS AND FEES: Fingerprinting is sometimes required at the time of appointment. If so, you may be required to pay the processing fee.
CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT/ELIGIBLE LISTS: Candidates who meet the qualifications and pass this examination will have their names placed on the eligible list in the order of final scores, regardless of the date on which they filed or took the test. Generally, the names of qualified candidates will remain on the eligible list for two years. Appeal of ratings will not be allowed as the opportunity for retest exists. The Department of Civil Service reserves the right to terminate this special recruitment program.
